NaNoWriMo?

A million years ago, I attempted NaNoWriMo. I wasn't exactly successful. One year, I sort of reached the 50k word count, but most of it was disjointed and I couldn't exactly call it a coherent narrative. I lost interest in that weird-looking "draft" right on December 1st and never looked back. As somewhat of a perfectionist, I felt badly, as if I had lied my way through something. It didn't feel like a story.

However, I have friends who have been very successful with NaNo and have edited and workshopped the results of their labor. Since it has been a few years now, I might try again with an open mind.

Something that has really pushed me to consider the marathon of words was this fantastic blog post, which I've embedded here. Read it, love it, and follow @WinnySharpe on Twitter!

Leave a comment to tell me if you're participating in NaNoWriMo. If not, why? If so, what genre?
